It has been quite some time since our last episode (sorry), we took a break from Rooster HQ to focus on our REAL businesses.

But now we’re back with our SouthStart series, which we’re excited about. We’re interviewing some of the stars of the Southstart Conference, which celebrates the collision of people, ideas and technology in Adelaide on November 21 to 23.

And first cab off the rank is the man behind SouthStart in 2018, Craig Swann. SouthStart fell into the hands of Craig and his business partners last year, and he has done an amazing job pulling together a world class event and activating an 'interesting' startup community in Adelaide.

Craig is a highly successful global innovator, in his own right. The Canadian founded companies in New York City, including award winning interactive agency CRASHMEDIA and the internet’s first online music studio, Looplabs.

Millions of people have benefited from Craig’s innovations, including Steve Jobs, who demoed Looplabs for the launch of the Safari Browser at an Apple Keynote. Craig has since become an industry thought leader in the interactive music space; authoring books, speaking internationally, teaching, curating technology events and developing and licensing customized online music experiences for top global brands.

He has received special recognition at SxSW and has won the prestigious Webby Award.

Before we get into Craig’s fascinating story, make sure you open your browser now and check out southstart.co. Southstart is activating Adelaide’s startup community by bringing together innovators, creators, founders and investors on November 22 and 23, in 2018 .. get involved, grab a ticket and we’ll see you there. If you’re late to this interview and have realised you’ve missed the event, make sure you sign up to the mailing list and follow Southstart on social media, and join the community.

Jason ‘Dizzy' Gillespie was one of the world’s great fast bowlers during the mid 2000s when Australia was dominating international cricket. He took 259 test match wickets, and who could forget the double century he made against Bangladesh in 2006. If not for injuries, his record could’ve been even better.

He’s now a highly respected cricket coach, and led the Adelaide Strikers to victory in the 2018 Big Bash League.

In recent years, he’s become a vegan. He explains the ethical and health reasons, but reveals the motivation behind the lifestyle change - the sudden and tragic loss of his father, Neil, who suffered a heart attack while helping Jason move house.

Attempts to revive his Dad were unsuccessful, and the aftermath led Jason to reflect on all aspects of his own life.

Jason also talks about other defining moments, including the grade cricket banter that ended up inspiring his path to Test cricket, his partnership with champion Glenn McGrath, overcoming adversity, coaching insights, family life, his indigenous heritage and much more.

You can book Jason Gillespie through PickStar, Australia’s marketplace to book sports stars for events, campaigns and fan experiences. Find out more at http://www.pickstar.com.au

In this episode we’re live at the Adelaide Podcast Festival with Ben Fitzsimons.

Ben was one of our first guests on Rooster Radio - a true entrepreneur, property developer and former CEO of the Adelaide 36ers in the NBL.

Now, he’s CEO of WeCann, pioneering the medical cannabis industry in Australia.

In a 15-minute rapid fire session at the Podcast Festival, we talked about the huge health and commercial opportunities that medicinal cannabis can bring, the barriers that are currently preventing the development of the industry in Australia and why the black market is prospering.

Greg Mackie OAM is one of South Australia's most influential people in arts and culture, and current Chief Executive of History SA. For Greg, the journey started with his family bookstore which built a cult following in the Adelaide CBD. His in-store events took a life of their own, and were the genesis of what would become the Adelaide Festival of Ideas, founded by Greg. He then applied for the state's most senior Arts gig, CEO of Arts SA, and to his surprise got the job. It was a steep learning curve, but Greg quickly found success. Through this role, and other influential positions within the public sector, Greg increased investment in the arts and also oversaw a number of cultural and social innovations. Greg is particularly unique in that he has somehow found a way to make art, entrepreneurship and government work together. He reveals why, and shares really important insights about how to cut through red tape and get things done in and with the public sector. He also put the arts community on notice about the reality of the future and funding of the arts, as well as leadership, his story and much more. In this episode, Rooster Radio enjoyed a professional recording setting for the first time, taking over a studio at ABC Adelaide for an interview with presenter Ali Clarke. Unfortunately, Ali didn't hit the red button and put us live to air. But we did record an interesting and insightful chat with one of South Australia's top media personalities. Now occupying the premium breakfast slot on ABC Radio, Ali in fact first made a name for herself on commercial radio. It's a career that began at Mix 102.3 with a Jerry Maguire style 'mission statement', which paved the way for her to jag a spot on the breakfast team, despite having no on-air experience. And following a steep learning curve, that show became number one in South Australia.  Ali and her team then controversially quit Mix and crossed the road to join Triple M. The success continued. BUT the world of commercial radio is cut throat and Ali talks about the day she was eventually given her marching orders. Ali shares her story, along with how she deals with criticism and the wellbeing challenges of breakfast radio, the keys to creating compelling content, lessons from growing up with a brother who has an intellectual disability and much more.
